PSYCHIATRIST - Lesvos - 6 Months

Summary of the position:

The main objective of the whole MHPSS intervention is to ensure a psychosocial approach in ERCI ́s intervention with migrants/refugees in Lesvos’ camps — to provide rigorous and professional clinical care integrated with community-based approaches to psychosocial support. The psychiatrist will serve primarily in ERCI’s medical clinic in Moria and is responsible for analyzing refugee patients’ mental health status; proposing, implementing and improving treatment for patients with psychiatric conditions using strategies and tools adapted to the context and culture. He/she will coordinate and closely collaborate with ERCI Medical Team, Social Worker and consult on cases with ERCI’s MHPSS Advisor, and provide professional documentation for national governmental actors. The psychiatrist will also be providing capacity building actions (such as training in Psychological First Aid) for all ERCI’s medical and PSS in the humanitarian refugee crisis in Greece.

Main Duties:
1. Diagnose mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders — including severe PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety disorders and addictions.

Prescribe and administer psychotropic medications for both new patients and psychiatric patients with already existing treatment plans of but are currently deprived of such provision psychotherapeutic treatments or medications
  • Design individualized care plans, using a variety of treatments
  • Develop medical treatment plans: prescribe medication, recommend therapy
  • Admit patients to hospital when necessary

3. Gather and maintain patient information and records, including social or medical history obtained from patients, relatives, or other professionals

  • Collect medical information from patients, family members, or other medicalprofessionals.
  • Record patient medical histories.4. Liaise and collaborate with physicians and consult with ERCI’s mental health and psychosocial advisor to discuss treatment plans and progress
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to plan or provide treatment
  • Examine patients to assess general physical condition
  • Integrate psychiatric patient care to be coherent with medical care (e.g. particularly in cases such as HIV/AIDS, TB, hemorrhagic fever, failed pregnancy, etc.)
  • Share information with medical team to maintain complete patient records
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patients’ information and ensure entire ERCI medical team, including volunteer interpreters, abide by theses rules accordingly5. Advise or inform patients and guardians, relatives, or significant others of patients’ conditions or treatment
  • Advise patients on effects of health conditions or treatments
  • Explain medical procedures or test results to patients or family members6. Prepare and submit case reports or summaries to government or mental health agencies.
  • Prepare official health documents or records
  • Prepare reports summarizing patient diagnostic or care activities7. Establish Protocols and Procedures for Specialised Psychiatric Patient Care establishing clear referral pathways both internally and between NGOs, document assessment tools and referral procedures for psychiatric patients in each camp
  • Write recommendations on assessment and management of psychiatric patients tooffer national mental health services used by the field teams
  • Ensure an S.O.P for assessment, referral and follow up of psychiatric patients livingin the camps assisted by ERCI medical team
  • Liaise with national mental health services in each area of intervention to ensure thata treatment plan and follow up of the patients is applied

• Provide recommendations and S.O.P for handling refugees with complex trauma and psychiatric disorders

Education/ Requirements for the post:

Required: M.D. specialized in clinical psychiatry, Licensed and Board Certified. Who demonstrates both successful clinical and humanitarian field experiences in international or emergency cooperation projects.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years post-qualification experience in clinical care to adults/ children
  • Prior clinical experience with war victims/refugees and communities exposed to armed conflict and high levels of trauma, including victims of sexual violence, torture and shipwreck
  • Prior work experience in holistic MHPSS programs
  • Desirable experience in training/supervision + clinical practise in trauma, sexualviolence, HIV/AIDS or any other chronic disease
  • Experience working in humanitarian contexts / in developing countries or withpatients from various cultures is preferredCompetencies / Job requirements:

Medical Coordinator

Emergency Response Center International (ERCI) is a Greek non-profit organization that provides emergency response and humanitarian aid in life threatening environments.

ERCI’s activities are expanding both in Search & Rescue (SAR)- Refugee Response and educational projects to support youth in refugee camps.

Role:

The Medical Coordinator guarantees that the medical activities implemented through
the ERCImed program are in line with ERCI’s strategy, policies and principles. He / she
is responsible for every medical aspect of the Program
and daily operations of
ERCImed’s clinics in the field.

Responsibilities:

    • Leads all medical aspects of the ERCImed program
    • Develops and supervises the policies and SOPs of the ERCImed program
    • Supervises the implementation of ERCImed’s strategy and activities in Lesvos
    • Coordinates and supervises the operations of ERCI’s clinics
    • Represents ERCI
      in Medical sector meetings
    • Ensures capacity building and training of all medical and non-medical team to improve
      efficiency
    • Participates in the development of strategy for ERCI’s medical activities
    • Co-operates with the administration team regarding budgeting of medical activities
      and with the financial team regarding purchasing and dispatching of medical
      equipment and drugs
    • Serves as the focal person for the medical referents
    • Provides technical advice to the medical team concerning health activities
      implementation
    • Assesses training needs of medical team (staff and volunteers) and develops /
      implements a capacity-building plan
    • Identifies the needs of the programme medical staff, drafts their job profiles and
      validates recruitments from a technical point of view
    • Takes part in performance evaluations of the medical
      team
    • Ensures the supervision of the pharmacy (consumptions, orders and inventory)
    • Ensures coordination and liaising with other medical actors, local hospital, and
      Municipality
    • In charge of drafting medical references

 

Studies / Experience:

      • Medical Doctor or Nurse or Midwife with experience in Public health and/or project
        coordination
      • Significant experience in similar positions (or) in the humanitarian sector
      • Working experience in public health and in managing health welfare in communities
      • Knowledge, competency and skills on public health aspects of Primary Health Care
      • Experience in supervising Health Promotion activities and some basic mental health
        activities
      • Experience in working with local authorities, partners
      • Written and oral fluency in Greek and English

Fundraising Executive Officer

Emergency Response Center International (ERCI) is a Greek non-profit organization that provides emergency response and humanitarian aid in life threatening environments.

ERCI’s activities are expanding both in Search & Rescue (SAR)- Refugee Response and educational projects to support youth in refugee camps.

Role:

The Fundraising Executive Officer will be responsible to guide and organize the actions to raise funds. Furthermore, he/she will conduct search for potential funding agencies (in Greece & worldwide).

Key Requirements:

  • Actively approach sponsors and donors using various methods to drive fundraising
  • Evaluate ERCI’s needs and work closely with the Finance team as well as relevant staff to develop proposal budgets
  • Coordinate with the Heads of the organization’s projects on the planning, development and submission of donor proposals
  • Maintain a list of potential donors and their specific funding preferences and deadlines for proposal submissions
  • Report and provide feedback to management using statistical data

Required Qualifications:

  • Academic background in CSR, Sales, Project Management or PR Communications
  • Minimum 2 years experience in fundraising department
  • Network of donors will be considered a plus
  • Demonstrated experience of writing winning proposals
  • Ability to evaluate proposals and make technical recommendations for improvement
  • Budgetary and financial reporting skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
